about

I am a Full Professor at the IT University of Copenhagen, where I lead the Human-AI Interaction Lab (HAIL). My research operates at the intersection of human-computer interaction (HCI), interaction/game design, and artificial intelligence. I am deeply interested in the entanglement of humans and AI and in how it informs the design of future AI-based applications, especially in learning and well-being technologies.

My work has been funded by major international funding bodies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF), and NordForsk. I serve as a Co-Editor of the Software Studies Book Series at MIT Press.

[Mar 2026]: I received a FCT Mobility grant to research “narrative explainable AI (XAI)” in collaboration with Dr. Valentina Nisi at IST, U. of Lisbon (Portugal). This project aims to develop a human-centered approach to explainable artificial intelligence (XAI) for well-being and care technologies by reframing AI explanations as narrative experiences.

[Dec 2025]: I received an Independent Research Fund Denmark (DFF) grant “Reducing Over-reliance and Fostering Responsible use of Emotion Tracking through Self-Reflection” with Co-PI Dr. Stella Grasshof.
